Ahmadu Bello University
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, is one of Nigeria’s largest and most prestigious federal universities. Established in 1962, the university was named after Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and the first Premier of Northern Nigeria.
Located in Zaria, Kaduna State, ABU has built a strong reputation for academic excellence, research, innovation, and leadership development across different disciplines.
ABU is regarded as one of the top-tier universities in Nigeria and Africa, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The university operates through 18 faculties, over 110 departments, several colleges, research centers, and institutes, providing education across sciences, arts, engineering, medicine, law, agriculture, social sciences, and many other professional fields.
The university offers more than 94 undergraduate programmes and over 664 postgraduate programmes, including PhD, MPhil, MSc, and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes.
ABU is particularly known for highly competitive courses such as Medicine and Surgery, Law, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computer Science, Accounting, Architecture, Mass Communication, and many others.
The university also offers specialized programmes in fields such as Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Health Sciences.
In addition to regular academic programmes, ABU operates the ABU Distance Learning Centre (ABU DLC), which provides flexible online and blended learning opportunities for students. The centre offers programmes such as B.Sc Business Administration, B.Sc Computer Science, B.Sc Economics, MBA programmes, and other professional postgraduate programmes designed for working-class students and distance learners.
Admission into ABU is highly competitive, with candidates required to meet the university’s admission requirements, including the approved JAMB cut-off mark. Candidates seeking admission into undergraduate programmes are also expected to participate in the ABU Post UTME screening exercise.
The ABU Post UTME screening is conducted physically at designated venues within the university environment in Zaria. Candidates are required to appear at the screening venues with their original JAMB result slips and Post UTME registration printouts.
According to the university bulletin, screening venues may include:
- Iya Abubakar Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IAIICT)
- Distance Learning Centre (DLC)
- Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centres
The screening exercise is conducted using a Computer-Based Test (CBT) system, where candidates answer multiple-choice questions related to their intended course of study and general admission requirements. Candidates are expected to manage their time effectively and demonstrate both speed and accuracy during the examination.
ABU also emphasizes the importance of correct UTME subject combinations, and candidates are advised to ensure that their selected subjects align with the requirements of their chosen courses to avoid admission complications.
Preparing with ABU Post UTME past questions and answers is one of the most effective ways to understand the university’s examination pattern, repeated topics, and question structure. Practicing past questions helps candidates improve familiarity with the CBT examination format and increases confidence ahead of the screening exercise.
Candidates are also encouraged to participate in regular ABU CBT practice tests to improve speed, time management, and examination readiness. Consistent practice under timed conditions can significantly improve overall performance.
