University of Medical Sciences

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo is Nigeria’s first specialized medical and health sciences university, established in 2015 by the Ondo State Government under the administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko. The university is located in Ondo City, Ondo State, and was founded to improve healthcare education, medical research, innovation, and quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria. The establishment of UNIMED was inspired by the need to improve healthcare services and reduce the alarming rates of maternal and child mortality previously experienced in Ondo State. Through various healthcare initiatives such as the Abiye (Safe Motherhood) Programme and the establishment of Mother and Child Hospitals, the Ondo State Government recognized the importance of developing a strong medical and health sciences institution to support sustainable healthcare development. UNIMED was created to provide integrated education and research of exceptional quality in all health-related sciences. The university focuses on producing highly skilled healthcare professionals capable of contributing positively to Nigeria’s health sector and the global medical community. The university operates with a strong vision of becoming a globally recognized institution known for excellence, innovation, research, and quality training in medical and health sciences. UNIMED also promotes inter-professional collaboration among healthcare practitioners, helping students understand healthcare delivery as a unified system rather than separate professional divisions. UNIMED offers several undergraduate and professional programmes across different faculties and departments including Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Science, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Public Health, Environmental Health Science, Radiography and Radiation Science, and many other medical and health-related programmes. The institution has continued to gain popularity among UTME candidates due to its strong academic reputation, modern healthcare training approach, and focus on practical medical education. Admission into UNIMED is highly competitive, especially for professional medical and health science courses. Admission into the university is mainly through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB. Candidates seeking undergraduate admission are also required to participate in the university’s Post UTME screening examination. The UNIMED Post UTME screening examination format is conducted using a Computer-Based Test (CBT) system and is usually held physically in Ondo City, Ondo State. Candidates are tested mainly in core science subjects related to their UTME combination, especially English Language, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry for most science and medical courses. The screening exercise mainly consists of multiple-choice questions designed to assess candidates’ academic readiness, reasoning ability, speed, and accuracy. Since the examination is timed, candidates are expected to answer questions quickly and accurately within the allocated period. Preparing with UNIMED Post UTME past questions and answers is one of the best ways to understand the examination pattern, repeated topics, and CBT question style frequently used by the university. Past questions help candidates improve confidence, examination readiness, and familiarity with likely questions. Candidates are also encouraged to take regular UNIMED CBT practice tests to improve time management, speed, accuracy, and familiarity with the computer-based examination environment. UNIMED operates with strong institutional values centered on Accountability & Integrity, Respect & Collegiality, Inclusion & Diversity, Service & Efficiency, and Excellence & Innovation. These values continue to shape the university’s commitment to quality healthcare education and professional development. Due to the highly competitive nature of admission into UNIMED, candidates are advised to prepare thoroughly, stay updated with official admission information, and practice regularly using reliable study materials, CBT mock examinations, and past questions to improve their chances of gaining admission.
