University of Port Harcourt

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is one of Nigeria’s leading federal universities and a major public research institution located in Choba and Aluu, Rivers State. Established in 1975 as a University College by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the institution was created to expand access to higher education and support the growing manpower needs of the Niger Delta region and the nation at large. In 1977, the institution attained full university status and has since grown into one of Nigeria’s foremost centres of academic excellence, research, innovation, and community development. UNIPORT is uniquely positioned within the Niger Delta region, surrounded by tropical rainforest, wetlands, rivers, swamps, and mangrove forests. Its location places the university at the heart of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, making it a strategic institution for research and development in petroleum studies, environmental sciences, engineering, and technology-related disciplines. Over the years, the University of Port Harcourt has expanded significantly from a few initial faculties into a comprehensive academic system comprising 2 Colleges, 18 Faculties, 16 Institutes, 4 Schools, 10 Units, and over 36 Centres. The university continues to pursue its vision of becoming one of the best universities in Africa through quality teaching, lifelong learning, innovation, and community-focused research. The university operates several major faculties including the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Science Laboratory Technology, and the Faculty of Social Sciences. UNIPORT offers highly competitive programmes such as Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Dentistry, Law, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mass Communication, Accounting, Pharmacy, Political Science, Economics, and many other programmes across different departments and faculties. The university also operates several specialized institutes and research centres including the Africa Centre of Excellence in Oilfield Chemicals Research (ACE-CEFOR), Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering (CITE), Energy Technology Institute, Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Institute of International Trade and Development, Offshore Technology Institute, School of Public Health, and the Open, Distance and e-Learning Centre (ODeL). Admission into UNIPORT is highly competitive, with candidates required to meet the approved JAMB cut-off mark and other admission requirements. Candidates seeking undergraduate admission are also required to participate in the UNIPORT Post UTME screening examination. The UNIPORT Post UTME screening is conducted physically using a Computer-Based Test (CBT) system. Candidates are required to be physically present at designated examination venues within the university environment for the screening exercise. The examination is usually conducted at three major CBT venues within the university: - Ashgrove Academy - Basic Building - ICTC Building All examination centres are located within the university park environment, commonly referred to as the Abuja Campus. The UNIPORT Post UTME examination format consists of 50 questions to be answered within 30 minutes. Candidates are tested in Use of English, Mathematics, and other subjects relevant to their intended course of study. The examination is graded over 400 marks, similar to the JAMB UTME scoring system, and each question carries 8 marks. The screening exercise mainly contains multiple-choice questions, requiring candidates to combine speed, accuracy, and proper time management during the examination. Preparing with UNIPORT Post UTME past questions and answers is one of the most effective ways to understand the university’s examination pattern, repeated topics, and frequently asked questions. Past questions help candidates become more familiar with the CBT examination environment and improve confidence ahead of the screening exercise. Candidates are also encouraged to participate in regular UNIPORT CBT practice tests to improve speed, accuracy, and examination readiness. Practicing under timed conditions can significantly improve performance during the actual examination.
