JAMB Urges Fact-Checking on Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged parents to thoroughly understand the university admission process before making public allegations. In a recent incident, Mr. Godwin Nsan accused the University of Calabar of unjustly denying his child admission. However, JAMB's investigation clarified that his child ranked 86th among the applicants, while the university had only 68 merit slots available.

JAMB emphasized that UTME scores alone do not guarantee admission. Universities also evaluate factors such as:
  • Catchment areas
  • Subject combinations
  • Post-UTME scores
  • Institutional quotas
To combat misinformation, JAMB has introduced a ticketing system that allows both candidates and parents to obtain clarifications prior to making any public accusations. The board calls on parents to remain objective and informed, addressing concerns through official channels rather than resorting to social media outbursts.
