2025 Makerere University Mastercard Scholarship Eligibility

To qualify for the 2025 Makerere University Mastercard Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:


Undergraduate Eligibility Criteria

• Must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus under the private sponsorship scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year
• Must have completed advanced secondary education or its equivalent in a Sub-Saharan African country.
• Must demonstrate financial need.
• Must not hold any other scholarship, including the Government of Uganda Scholarship.
• Must not have completed any undergraduate degree program.
• Must demonstrate leadership potential and/or active involvement in community service.
  Must be 28 years old or younger at the application deadline; however, applicants who are refugees, internally displaced persons, or students with disabilities should be 32 years old or younger.
• Refugee applicants must possess a Refugee Identity Card or Family Attestation.
  Applicants from refugee host communities must have completed their secondary education within those communities.
• Must apply for degree programs prioritized under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Master’s Eligibility Criteria

• Must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus for the 2025/2026 academic year.
• Must have completed undergraduate education in a Sub-Saharan African country.
• Must demonstrate financial need.
• Must not hold any other scholarships.
  Must not be pursuing or have completed any master's degree studies.
• Must demonstrate leadership potential and/or active involvement in community service.
• Must be 35 years old or younger at the application deadline; however, applicants who are refugees or students with disabilities should be 40 years old or younger.
• Refugee applicants must possess a Refugee Identity Card or Family Attestation.
• Must apply for degree programs prioritized under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
