Rhodes West Africa Scholarship Benefits

  • The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford University course fees, as well as providing an annual stipend.
  • For the 2025-26 academic year, the stipend is £19,800 per annum (£1,650 per month) from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation. Please note: this is not sufficient to cover partners or dependents.
<p>Following selection for the Scholarship, the Rhodes Trust will also cover: </p>
  • The fee required to apply to study at the University of Oxford
  • Fees for a student visa and associated International Health Surcharge (IHS), which enables international students to access the UK’s National Health Service
  • Two economy class flights to and from the UK, for the beginning and end of studies in Oxford.

Rhodes West Africa Scholarship Eligibility

  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of a West African country and have lived there for at least 5 of the last 10 years.
  • Age: 18–24 years old (as of 1 Oct 2025); up to 27 if first degree was completed later.
  • Education: First-class or equivalent undergraduate degree (must be completed by July 2026).
  • English: Must meet Oxford’s English language requirements.
  • Character: Strong leadership, integrity, and commitment to service.

  • <p>Academic transcript from your university/college</p>


  • <p>Proof of residency in your region for 5 of the last 10 years (e.g. school records)</p>


  • <p>English proficiency test results (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS) or a waiver request letter if eligible under Oxford’s criteria</p>
