Dental students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have staged a protest over the non-accreditation of their programme, leaving many stranded for over ten years without graduation. The students, expressing frustration over the delay, called on the university management and relevant authorities to act swiftly.

Speaking during the protest, the President of the Jos University Dental Students Association, Johnson Titus, expressed the frustration of his colleagues, blaming the university for their predicament. He stated that the students were never informed that the dentistry programme lacked accreditation when they were admitted.
“We have been here for over ten years without graduating because our programme has no accreditation. The university never told us this when we applied. If we had known, we wouldn’t have chosen this course,” Titus said.

Another student, Nwike Pius, criticized the institution’s management for giving conflicting information about the situation. He explained that attempts to meet with the Vice-Chancellor had been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, revealed that the university is taking steps to address the issue. According to the source, the management has opened bidding for ₦800 million worth of projects, which includes the purchase of equipment for the dental programme. Meetings with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) are also ongoing to secure a date for accreditation.
Despite this assurance, the students vowed to continue their peaceful protest until concrete action is taken
