About 2025 English Language Assistants Program
English Language Assistants in France are assigned to primary or secondary schools, where their main role is to enhance students' communication skills, particularly in spoken English, and to foster a deeper understanding of a different civilization and culture.
The assistant typically works in collaboration with the school’s modern language teachers, providing support for their lessons. This may involve working with the entire class alongside the teacher or engaging with smaller groups of students separately to provide more focused practice and interaction.
Assistants are classified as non-permanent State agents, working 12 hours per week. The contract duration is seven months, from October 1 to April 30, except for German assistants, whose contracts run for six months, ending March 31.

The monthly remuneration was set at €1,036 gross before deduction of various compulsory deductions (social security, etc.), or approximately €800 to €813 net.
2025 English Language Assistants Program Eligibility
The basic requirements for participation in the English Language Assistants Program are as follows:
- be native speakers of the language they wish to teach in France (German, English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Hebrew, Italian, sign language, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Czech or Turkish);
- have completed the majority of their secondary schooling as well as their higher education in the country where the application is submitted;
- be between 20 and 35 years old as of 12/31/2025;
be regularly registered at a university at the time of application. Some partner countries and institutions accept other administrative statuses. Candidates are invited to refer to the specific conditions of their place of residence; - have obtained a diploma equivalent to the 2nd year of the license course (L2) at the time of their application;
- have a good knowledge of the French language (B1 on the Common European Framework of References for Languages scale)
