About UNESCO International Fund

The UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) is a key initiative established under the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Its primary aim is to support sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing countries that are Parties to the Convention. The IFCD achieves this by investing in cultural and creative industries, empowering countries in the Global South to overcome inequalities and enrich the entire world.

Since its inception in 2010, the IFCD has invested over US$12.6 million in 164 projects across 76 developing countries. These projects span various sectors, including cinema, performing arts, visual arts, media arts, design, music, and publishing. The fund supports initiatives that develop and implement cultural policies, build the skills of cultural entrepreneurs, create new income opportunities for marginalized groups, and identify new markets for creatives to share diverse cultural expressions. \
The IFCD operates through an open and competitive process, providing up to US$100,000 per project, implemented over a 12–24-month period. Projects are evaluated based on their relevance, feasibility, financial management capacity, and expected results.

By supporting innovative projects that strengthen the cultural and creative industries, the IFCD plays a vital role in promoting cultural diversity, encouraging creativity and innovation, and building a more sustainable world.
