The update was introduced after several candidates during the 2025 admission exercise failed to accept or respond to their admission offers on CAPS.
With the new system, institutions can now send important admission-related notifications directly to candidates through SMS while also keeping proper communication records on the CAPS platform.
The development is expected to improve communication between institutions and candidates, reduce delays in the admission process, and ensure candidates stay updated on their admission status.
In another major update from the 2026 JAMB Policy Meeting, candidates offered admission are now expected to accept their admission offers within four weeks.
JAMB explained that a four-week grace period will be given after an admission offer is issued. Failure to accept the admission within the stipulated period may lead to the admission being withdrawn or automatically affected on CAPS.
Candidates are therefore advised to regularly monitor their CAPS profiles and respond promptly to admission notifications and offers from their institutions.
