JAMB has announced that candidates seeking admission into NCE and Agricultural Non-Technology Diploma programmes will no longer need to write UTME, as admission will now be based on registration and credential screening.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates seeking admission into Colleges of Education for NCE programmes and Agricultural Non-Technology Diploma courses will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The announcement was made during the 2026 JAMB Policy Meeting as part of efforts to improve access to tertiary education and simplify the admission process for affected programmes.

According to the new policy, candidates applying for these programmes will only be required to register with JAMB and undergo credential screening before being considered for admission.
The Board explained that the change is aimed at encouraging more students to pursue teacher education and selected agricultural-related diploma programmes without the pressure of writing the UTME.
Despite the removal of the UTME requirement, applicants will still be expected to meet the admission standards and screening requirements set by their institutions of choice.
The policy is expected to take effect during the 2026/2027 admission exercise.
