Post Utme

Post UTME is a screening examination conducted by Nigerian tertiary institutions after candidates complete the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organized by JAMB. It serves as an additional assessment used by universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education to evaluate candidates seeking admission into their institutions. The introduction of Post UTME in 2005 was aimed at improving the admission process by allowing institutions to independently assess candidates beyond their JAMB scores. Over the years, Post UTME has become an important stage in the admission process, as many institutions combine both JAMB and Post UTME scores when determining admission eligibility. Several institutions in Nigeria conduct Post UTME examinations or screening exercises, including the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Olabisi Onabanjo University(OOU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), Convenant University, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH)and many other federal, state, and private institutions across the country. The Post UTME examination format varies across institutions. Some schools conduct fully Computer-Based Tests (CBT), while others may use written examinations, online screening, or document verification methods. The structure, number of questions, subjects, and time allocation often depend on the institution and the course applied for. Most Post UTME examinations consist mainly of multiple-choice questions based on subjects related to the candidate’s intended course of study. Certain institutions may also include English Language, Current Affairs, or General Aptitude questions as part of the screening process. The level of difficulty in Post UTME examinations may vary depending on the institution, but questions are generally drawn from secondary school subjects and topics related to the JAMB syllabus. Candidates are expected to demonstrate speed, accuracy, and a strong understanding of key concepts. In preparation for the examination, studying with Post UTME past questions and answers is highly recommended. Past questions help candidates understand the pattern of questions frequently set by institutions, identify repeated topics, and become familiar with the style and structure of the examination. Candidates are also encouraged to engage in regular Post UTME practice tests to improve their confidence and examination readiness. Practicing under timed conditions helps improve time management, accuracy, and familiarity with CBT systems used by many institutions. Different institutions release their Post UTME forms, eligibility requirements, cut-off marks, and screening schedules independently. Candidates are therefore advised to stay updated with official announcements from their chosen institutions to avoid missing important deadlines. Success in Post UTME examinations requires proper preparation, understanding of the examination format, consistent study, and regular practice using past questions, CBT Practice and Mock tests.
